Share with people
Send families and folders to teammates and see what has been shared with you.
Work in progress
Use Share in the app menu to see what you have sent and what others have shared with you.
Share a family or folder
- Select the family or folder, or several of them, and choose Share. You find it on the family's page, on its row, and in the ⋯ menu.
- Under Invite, keep Specific people, type a name or email, and choose an access level for them.
- Optionally add a Description: a note the recipient sees with the share.
- Choose Send.
The recipient gets a notification in the app and an email.
Access levels
| Level | The recipient can |
|---|---|
| Read | View the family: its details, 3D preview and parameters. They cannot download it. |
| Write | Everything Read allows, plus download, edit and share it onwards. |
If a recipient says they cannot download a file you shared, check this first.
Folders
Sharing a folder shares everything in it, including families added later.
Limits
One share can include up to 25 families and folders and go to up to 25 people, with at most 200 combinations in all. A description can be up to 2,000 characters. You can send up to 5 shares a minute.
Manage who has access
Open Share again on an item that is already shared. People with access lists everyone who has it and their level, separately from Invite, so adding someone never changes what the others have. From there you can remove a person, or use Remove share to stop sharing the item altogether.
If the item sits in a folder you shared, the people who have it through that folder are listed too. Stop inheriting takes this item out of the folder's share for them, without removing the folder share itself.
What you have sent
On the Share page, choose By me. Shares are grouped by the person they went to, and each line shows your note, the date, the access you gave and whether they have opened it (Not marked as read).
What you receive
On the Share page, With me lists the people who shared with you. Choose one to see what they sent, each share with their note and your access level (for example Can view). To find a received family from anywhere, use the Shared with me option in search; see Search and filter.
If you only have Read access you can look but not download. To pass a received family on you need Write access; with Read, choose Request reshare and the owner decides.
Sharing is not publishing
Sharing sends items to specific people, who must have an account. To put families where anyone can find them, publish a collection to the public gallery. To share inside a team with roles and approvals, use a workspace.
Anyone with the link is the one option in the Share window that is public. It publishes the item as a public feed, the same way the gallery does, and anyone with the link can open it. By default the link never expires. When you create it, you can choose an expiry date of up to 90 days from today.
