Family details

Inspect a family's parameters, types, 3D preview and attached files.

Work in progress

This page is a draft. Some sections are placeholders and details may change.

Open any family in your browser to see what is inside before you load it into a project: its parameters, its types, an interactive 3D preview, and related images, videos and documents.

A family's detail page with its parameters and an interactive 3D preview

What you can and cannot edit

You can edit a family's identity data for each version, and attach documents and media. The type and instance parameters read from the .rfa are read-only: to change them, change the family in Revit and upload a new version.

A tour of the page

Along the top

The path back to where you came from, and N of M families in this folder with arrows to step to the previous or next family without going back to the list.

Preview

The large preview shows the family's thumbnail. Choose 3D beside it for the interactive model: drag to turn it, scroll to zoom, Reset view to start again, and Fullscreen 3D viewer for a larger view.

Summary

On the right, from the top:

  • The category and the name.
  • The version picker. It shows the version you are looking at, marks the current one, and offers Add new version. See Versions and rollback.
  • The Revit version the file was saved in, its size and its number of types.
  • The family's tags.
  • A description. Choose Add description to say what the family is for, so teammates pick the right one.
  • Identity data: how many of the identity fields are filled, and Edit identity data. See Identity data.
  • Download, Share, the star for favorites, and a ⋯ menu with the other actions (rename, move, copy, new version, delete).
  • Sharing: who you shared the family with, or Not shared.

Parameters

The family's type and instance parameters, grouped as in Revit (for example Constraints, Construction, Identity Data). A family with several types has a Type selector: switching type also updates the identity data, the instance parameters and the 3D view.
